DX Demonstration Experiment by Nippon Travel Agency and JASMY: Its First Travel Media Site, “Tripα,” Implements Membership Function Using Blockchain Technology

Nippon Travel Agency Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Etsumitsu Koyano) and JASMY Incorporated (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazumasa Sato) have implemented a member registration function using blockchain technology on Nippon Travel Agency’s travel media site, “Tripα”.

Since December 2021, Nippon Travel Agency and Jasmy have utilized “Jasmy Personal Data Locker” (hereinafter “PDL”), a personal information utilization service using Jasmy’s blockchain technology. They have considered various possibilities for digital transformation (hereinafter “DX”).

As the first practical application, a member registration function linked to PDL has been implemented on Nippon Travel Agency’s travel media site “Tripα” to improve the customer experience utilizing digital technology. It started accepting registration of new members on November 9, 2022.

By registering as a new member of Tripα linked to JASMY’s “PDL,” registered Tripα members can now have their own My Page on the website. Within My Page, the users can use a new service, “Clip,” released together with My Page, allowing them to save their favorite articles.

In the conventional practice on the Internet, customers’ personal information is usually in the custody of the service providers and managed on their server sides. However, Tripα has introduced the “PDL” system allowing its customers to manage and utilize their sensitive personal information independently. It will enable the customers to use the web services in a safe and secure environment without entrusting the management and utilization of their personal information to the service providers.

In the future, we will apply the “PDL” mechanism to develop an information provision function that improves usability, such as an “AI recommendation service” analyzing each member’s interests and concerns. We will also create new customer experiences by using UGC (User Generated Contents) made through active participation by its members and utilizing blockchain technology, such as community development.

◎ Specific examples of the use of the function (planned)

  • Posting reviews and photos of travel spots only customers know about and their favorite travel destinations
  • Participating in surveys and polls
  • Proposing travel plans
  • Supporting travel destinations and local communities, etc.

We plan to create user content by linking the above features to our “PDL” and to offer incentives, such as coupons, to the members who have helped generate the content.
